SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The sixth annual Kids Helping Kids benefit concert was a success at the Granada Theater this weekend.
The red carpet event was sold out.
The first group to take the stage won the recent Royals Got Talent competition at San Marcos High School. The two teens, Travis Smelley and Oliver Piltch, kicked off the event.
San Marcos High School alum Tim Lopez also performed. Lopez is a Grammy-nominated member of the Plain White T's.
Singer Andy Grammer headlined the show.
Grammer is best known for songs like "Keep Your Head Up" and "Fine By Me."
All of the proceeds from ticket sales, raffle prizes and auction items go to charitable causes.
"Over the past 11 years, Kids Helping Kids has raised over $1 million for disadvantaged kids both here in our community and around the world. And this fall we set a goal for ourselves to raise $250,000, and I'm really proud to say that we're going to hit that number tonight and probably going to exceed it," said Kids Helping Kids CEO Carter Hudson.
The entire event was put on by 147 AP Economics students in the student-run nonprofit.
